This is a continuation of the previous post At a Glance Tamil Film Industry – Year 2008.

Arjun (into his 25th year in Kollywood) and Bharath had three releases each.  The Bharathiraaja-directed ‘Bommalattam’ and the Perarasu-directed ‘Tiruvannamalai’ were the Arjun releases of 2008; both are enjoying a decent run at the box-office.  Bharath’s releases—‘Nepali’, ‘Seval’ and ‘Muniyandi’—turned out to be damp squibs at the B.O.  Simbu’s ‘Kaalai’ was a failure, but his latest film, ‘Silambattam’, appears to be an average hit.

Director-turned-hero Sundar C replaced Sarath Kumar as the minimum-guarantee star, with a couple of hits, this year.  Myshkin got second-time lucky with ‘Anjathay’ this year.  The Vinay-starrer ‘Jeyamkondan’ and the Venkatprabhu-directed ‘Saroja’ heralded the arrival of thinking young directors.  ‘Kadhalail Vizhundhaen’ and ‘Subramaniapuram’ stood out with their phenomenal success at the box-office, surprising many trade pundits.  Sashi’s ‘Poo’, turned out to be a sensitively-crafted film.

As far as the heroines are concerned, the year witnessed some indirect catfight between the leading heroines, Trisha and Nayantara.  While Trisha’s ‘Bheema’ and ‘Kuruvi’ misfired at the B.O., her ‘Abhiyum Naanum’ won her appreciation.

Nayantara had a pretty ordinary year at the box-office, with ‘Kuselan’, ‘Sathyam’ and ‘Aegan’ failing to make much of an impression at the box-office.  Comedians Vivek and Vadivelu, who were on top last year, witnessed a dip in their fortunes, whereas Karunas, ‘Ganja’ Karuppu and Santhanam got promoted to lead roles.

The entry of corporate firms in film production helped promote some quality films.  UTV’s ‘Poi Solla Porom’ and Moser Baer’s ‘Raman Thediya Seethai’ and ‘Poo’ were noticed for their impeccable craft. Sun Pictures hit jackpot with a hat-trick – ‘Kadhalil Vizhundhen’, ‘Thenavattu’ and ‘Dindukkal Sarathy’. The last one had comedian Karunas playing lead role.

At a glance, I just want to say 2008 presents quite an indifferent picture for Kollywood as compared over the previous year. The number of hit films was less than 10 percent of the total number of films produced; many big films including the Rajnikanth-starrer ‘Kuselan’ bit the dust. But, the year had some important lessons for the industry. There is space for intelligent films and if the packaging is good, the Tamil audience won’t leave the halls empty.

The amazing success of ‘Subrahmanyapuram’, ‘Saroja’, ‘Bommalattam’, ‘Santosh Subrahmanyam’ and ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ are telling examples of this new phenom.

Among the superstars, Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijaykanth, Vijay, Ajit, Vikram and Suriya had one release each. While Rajni had to compensate for the losses incurred by the distributiors of ‘Kuselan’, Kamal’s ‘Dasavatharam’ was a rocking hit.

The much awaited film by Lingusamy, ‘Bheema’, starring Vikram and Trisha, bombed at the B.O. as the masses were unhappy with its climax wherein the lead actors get killed. Vijay’s ‘Kuruvi’ somehow managed to cross 100 days, but cannot be qualified as a hit. Ajit’s ‘Aegan’ and Suriya’s ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ turned out to be moderate grossers. Vijaykanth had a decent hit in ‘Arasangam’. Vishal had to swallow the bitter pill in ‘Sathyam’, as his action and Nayantara’s glamour did not prove sufficient enough to ensure a hit in the absence of a proper script.

Lindsay Lohan’s girlfriend Samantha Ronson was admitted to Cedars-Sinai hospital

Earlier this month, Lindsay Lohan’s girlfriend Samantha Ronson was admitted to Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles after reportedly suffering from  exhaustion and depression. She has since been released, but now they are  hearing details of what went down before the hospital trip.

According to TMZ, Lindsay and Sam got into a really big fight at Sam’s house in the middle of the night. Don’t these people sleep? According to some of Sam’s neighbors they got into a screaming match for a couple of hours and neighbors heard someone screaming, “You never say you love me!”

Things apparently got so heated at one point Lindsay started to break things (She definitely seems like one of those girls) in the house. Then the neighbors reportedly heard Sam scream, “If you’re gonna break things get out of my house.”

A short time later Sam to put an end to the fight by going to the hospital for exhaustion. The poor girl was probably exhausted from Lindsay’s yelling. The two have since made up because they were seen acting lovey dovey together while shopping at Barney’s.

Superstar Rajnikanth reaches the shooting site on a motorcycle?

Did U believe that – Superstar Rajnikanth reaches the shooting site on a motorcycle?  Hmmm… It’s Impossible, it may seem, but that was what happened recently at the sets of Shankar’s magnum opus, ‘Endhiran’.

The superstar was on his way to Ennore, where ‘Endhiran’s filming was being held, when his car got stuck in a traffic jam. Since there was no sign of the traffic snag getting cleared, the superstar got in touch with Shankar.

Shankar, not at all willing to waste time, sent bikers (his stuntmen) with a long coat and a helmet to bring the superstar.  Rajni, without any hesitation, agreed to ride pillion, put on the long coat and the helmet, and arrived for shooting on time! The bikers were given strict instructions by Shankar not to allow Rajni to ride the bike, it is learnt.

The entire crew, including Aishwarya Rai, were shocked to see the superstar alighting a motorcycle, but Shankar and Rajni were laughing heartily.

Ever since hot actress Sonia Aggarwal, who married veteran director Selvaraghavan, decided to act in a TV serials, now many married heroines are being offered a part either in soap operas or on reality shows. Sonia Aggarwal is reportedly commanding Rs.75, 000 per day.

The grapevine is that a popular television channel has sent feelers to actress Jyothika, who had quit cinema to marry Suriya. Jyothika has reportedly been offered a fee higher than what Sonia commands. The bubbly actress has reportedly expressed her willingness to act provided the script is challenging enough.

Now the world is facing a tremendous financial meltdown crisis due to the several bailout of US president Bush. I don’t know when this problem will solve and we all get back to normal life with proper economy. Because of the sudden drop in Stock exchange Markets, there is a fall in all things such as import, export, IT field, Mobile Industry, Automotive Industry etc.,

In addition to this, there is a huge cost cut in real estate business in all over the world. This is the best time to invest on home for buying or selling or refinancing their home mortgages. Because due to this economic slowdown all nationalized banks cut their interest rates for mortgage loans as well as make all folks to buy new homes for their life. One of the best places to live in this world is US guys. Because it has pleasant environment as well as low mortgage rates irrespective of their global economic crisis. So don’t worry about the financial crisis of current situation, lets think about your future and It’s the golden opportunity for all average salary earning people to get their dream house.

‘Dindigul Sarathy’ whopping Rs.10 crore

In Kollywood,  comedians romancing the leading ladies is nothing new. But, B.O. results were not always pleasant. Vadivelu films ‘Imsai Arasan…’ was a big  hit, but Vivek’s ‘Solli Adippaen’ is yet to see the light of the day.  In the row, ‘Dindigul Sarathy’, a film with comedian Karunas as the hero, has been sold for a whopping Rs.10 crore for distribution in Tamil Nadu. The distribution rights for the film produced at a modest budget of Rs.1.5 crore, have been bought by Sun Pictures.
 
The Coimbatore region alone has fetched for Rs.75 lakh, a rate equalling that of many of the frontline heroes. Naturally, Karunas is over the moon! This is the first time Karunas dons the role of the male lead in a film. The film is a remake of the Malayalam hit, ‘Vadakkunokki Yantram’, written and directed by Sreenivasan.

Morphed Nayanthara MMS Clip in Internet

An MMS clip, allegedly showing Shaji and actress Nayantara in compromising positions, “was available on the Internet as well as on the cell phones”. Shaji Kailas, the busy Malayalam director, has made it clear that no journalist had the right to wreak havoc by deliberately playing up fake MMS-s. He was speaking at a press conference held recently in Chennai to celebrate the success of his Tamil film, ‘Ellam Avan Seyal’.

He also said that the MMS clip was a morphed one. If it was just a rumuor, he “would have forgotten and forgiven it”, but he “cannot forgive someone who has done it with an ulterior motive”.
