Chennai Super Kings strangled the Delhi Daredevils run chase and won the match by 18 runs here in Johannesburg on Saturday. Valiant fifties from opener David Warner and wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik could not bring the victory home for the Delhi side. Left arm spinner Shadab Jakati grabbed four wickets and was declared the man of the match, on a helpful Wanderers wicket. The Delhi innings finished off at 145 runs in the full quota of overs for the loss of eight wickets.
Needing 164 runs to win the match the Delhi Daredevils, in the absence of Virender Sehwag, started their innings on the wrong foot as stand-in Captain Gautam Gambhir was dismissed for 13 runs, Suresh Raina taking a one -handed blinder at backward point. In the very next ball speedster Sudeep Tyagi bowled a peach of a delivery to get rid of the dangerous AB De Villiers for a golden duck. The in-form Dilshan was foxed by a turning delivery from left arm spinner Shadab Jakati. The Sri Lankan scored could add just 13 runs to his individual score. While wickets fell from one end, David Warner continued the fireworks from the other side. The Australian hit boundaries at will, and brought up his 50 in just 38 balls. Hi maiden IPL fifty was replete with shots over and across the fence. Together with Dinesh Karthik the duo brought up a fifty-run partnership between them.

The duo however could not continue their good work. First Warner was sensationally stumped by Dhoni off the bowling of Jakati. The short but stout Aussie scored 51 runs. Jakati made a pivotal breakthrough once again when Karthik holed out in the deep for 52 runs. Muthiah Murlitharan gleefully accepted the catch. With both the star performers out of the picture, the Delhi innings tottered at 132 runs for the loss of six wickets. Jakati and Murli played a vital part in staving off the Warner-Karthik challenge.
Earlier Delhi won the toss and decided to field first. M. Vijay was the first casualty for the Superkings as he fell for 14 runs. Ashish Nehra making the first strike for the Daredevils. Hayden continued to smash the Delhi bowling to all corners of the Wanderers Stadium. His aggressive intent was culled by Pradeep Sangwan, who got rid of him for 30 runs. Suresh Raina and S Badrinath carried on for the Chennai Superkings and made 32 and 45 runs respectively. Both of them fell to the bowling of Rajat Bhatia. Albie Morkel, MS Dhoni and Jacob Oram failed to prop up the middle-order and the kings were 144 for the loss of seven wickets when the Captain fell to a Dirk Nannes delivery. Nannes claimed three wickets in the game, along with Nehra who also snaffled three wickets. The Superkings innings folded with 163 runs on the board.
